Devin Cole to battle former champion Arlovski at World Series of Fighting 1
Miami, Fla. - Heavyweight Devin Cole will battle former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski at the World Series of Fighting (WSOF) 1 on Nov. 3 at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
The bout, headlining the debut show for the WSOF, will air live on NBC Sports Network.
“This is the biggest fight of my career,” stated Cole, a Portland native who is training for this fight at American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Fla. “Andrei Arlovski has been at the very pinnacle of our sport, and that’s where I’m trying to get. To be able to fight him on national TV will help to open a lot of eyes as my career moves forward.”
Arlovski was the UFC’s heavyweight champion in 2005 and successfully defended the belt twice during his reign. He holds a career record of 17-9-1 (10-4, UFC). Of his victories, 13 have come via knockout and three more by submission. Only three of Arlovski’s professional fights have ever gone to a decision.
“Arlovski can be very explosive, and he comes to fight hard every night. He’s well-versed in boxing and sambo, but he is very strong in many martial arts disciplines. This is going to be a great fight for the fans,” Cole said.
Cole’s promising professional career began in 2003 as he won 10 of his first 11 fights, including a unanimous decision over Travis Wiuff, and a knockout of Mike Kyle.
Cole has compiled a 20-9-1 career record. While competing in Strikeforce in 2011, he posted a 2-1 record, losing only a decision to one of the top heavyweights in the world, Daniel Cormier. Cole has won even of his last nine bouts, four of which came via TKO.
Cole’s background is in wrestling, where he was a 2001 All-American for Southern Oregon Univ., leading the team to a national championship that year. However, he has become known for his striking, which he has used to finish off 10 of his career victories.
